What to Look for When Choosing an AI SEO Tool

Can SEO Tools Measure LLM Visibility?

Short answer: No. The vast majority of traditional SEO tools — Semrush, Ahrefs, Moz, SE Ranking — analyze Google's ranking data. They are not designed to measure visibility in AI assistants.

This gap gave birth to a new category of GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) focused tools. So what should you look for in these tools?

7 Critical Features

1. Multi-LLM Support

Making decisions based on a single AI assistant is misleading. A good AI SEO tool should analyze at least 5-9 different models (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, etc.) and show the differences between them.

Why it matters? A brand can be strong on ChatGPT while weak on Gemini. Single model visibility is misleading.

2. Sentiment Analysis

Being recommended isn't enough — how you're recommended matters too. "I recommend this brand but customer service is weak" is very different from "the most trustworthy brand in this industry."

The tool should automatically distinguish positive/negative/neutral and be able to show reasoning.

3. Competitor Comparison

In GEO, relative position matters more than absolute score. Saying "my score is 65" is insufficient — if your competitor's score is 80, that's a serious problem.

A good tool should show you side by side with your competitors.

4. Accuracy Check

AI assistants sometimes give wrong information. They might say "this brand's headquarters is in Ankara" but you're in Istanbul. Detecting and correcting these types of errors is a critical part of GEO optimization.

5. Historical Trend

More valuable than an instant score is change over time. At least 3-6 months of trend data is needed to see the impact of your strategic actions.

6. Industry-Based Analysis

Each industry has different queries. "Best restaurant" and "best SaaS software" trigger very different AI behaviors. A good tool should be able to analyze with industry-specific prompt sets.

7. Action Recommendations

Just presenting data isn't enough. Tools that offer concrete, actionable recommendations like "Your score is 58 — if you do these things, you could reach 75" create real value.

When choosing an AI SEO tool, ask "Is it Google data or LLM data?" The two are very different. To stay competitive in 2026, you need both.
